Bulls rally late versus Phoenix

Chicago came out of the All Star Break with momentum and was riding high off a dismantling of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Bulls Nation was expecting a push to the next tier in the Eastern Conference. The offense was coming together. The defense was starting to look like what we had grown used to seeing in the Windy City.

They came out the gates in Detroit, who had just shipped off their starting small forward and point guard. The Pistons were depleted and were just excited of their future with former Oklahoma City point guard Reggie Jackson headed their way. Chicago fans were pretty excited to get another win under their belt and continue their recent roll.

As much as Bulls fans know now that game ended in a 100 to 91 loss, Andre Drummond put on a wonderful performance. He ended the game with 20 points and 20 rebounds and took the Bulls to the shed on the offensive glass. Kind of depressing huh?

Well Chicago didn't have much time to mope. They had to pick up the pieces of their shattered game led by a poor performance from Derrick Rose and fly to Phoenix because they had another game the next night. Luckily this was a similar situation for the Bulls, facing another team that had a yard sale before the deadline. Phoenix shipping off arguably 3 of their best 4 players.

The game tipped off and the Bulls looked to be putting on another terrible depressing performance. The Bulls trailed the entire game from start to finish and at one time trailed by 15 points. Phoenix didn't even look to be doing anything that impressive. Chicago in true Bulls fashion this season seemed to be beating themselves. Then the last 3 minutes happened. Suddenly Jimmy Butler and Derrick Rose came to life. They cranked on the after burners, almost like they had just been toying with the Suns back court, and took the lead in the last minute and didn't relinquish it.

The Bulls pulled out a game that they should of lost. They had no right to win that game and seemed to be asleep the entire course of the game. There they were though. Winners when the final buzzer sounded. That speaks volumes to me.

I think most sports junkies would tell you that Chicago should count their blessings on that game. They should just be glad that they won and count themselves lucky. I think Chicago showed how terrifying the Bulls can be. They are good enough, talented enough, and well coached enough to win games they shouldn't. They can be dead on arrival and suddenly kick in and pull the game out of the darkness.

NBA look out. The 2011 Bulls may be back.

  1. Was sad that I had to miss this years All Star Game! I went last year in New Orleans and it was a fun experience that I won't forget. If you haven't went yet, its definitely something to add to your bucket list.

  2. I love your sports writing! If you enjoy doing it you might look into being a sports writer for the Vista here on campus, it would be exactly what you're doing, just writing about Broncho Sports!
