Remember this? How happy Thunder nation was after a big close out win on a Eastern Conference contender's home floor? Well. Here we are now. If I am not mistaken a small militia is being formed outside the Chesapeake Arena as we speak. If you would like to join pitch forks and torches are encouraged.
The Thunder drop a game to the New York 'we traded our entire team' Knicks last night and I really thought I was dreaming. Kevin Durant sat out for the second straight game with a toe strain. Which for most of the sports world means the Thunder wanted to rest their best player against the worst team in the NBA. The Knick's record was a very unimpressive 8-37 and Thunder were coming off a very poor performance against the Timberwolves. These two opponents going into the games were a total of 16- 73.
Around the league this was seen as a chance for the Thunder to 'right the ship' against two lottery pick teams. They however escaped Andrew Wiggins and the Timberwolves off a big performance from Serge Ibaka and collapsed against New York. So what does that mean for the Thunder?
Burn it down. I mean really what other choices do we have? Yes we have 36 games left and at this point we sit 3 1/2 games behind Phoenix. This be no means is impossible for us to accomplish in the time frame we have available. However the Dion Waiters experiment to this point hasn't helped do anything but give the Thunder something else to talk about in post game.
The coaching staff in my opinion is the most to blame at this point in the season. That is where I think we are. Going into these two games we knew we had a chance to string together a few wins. The coaching staff decided to sit Durant against Minnesota and saw us struggle. Then turned around and sat him again.
They replace Durant with Perry Jones? Who before the injury hadn't seen minutes in 2 weeks. I think Scott Brooks is now at a cross roads in his professional career. He is trying to prove that his way of always leaving people in their roles even when a starter goes down for rest or an injury. Instead of inserting Morrow into the line up or Dion Waiter we have Perry Jones.
I guess a captain wants to go down with his ship. I think at this point we can all just admit that maybe it is time for the Thunder to go in a new direction. I don't think Scott is a bad coach, but I think that with the roster he has been dealt he may be the wrong guy. Flexibility and understanding your roster is deep and plugging in players who already are getting minutes is a viable option. We aren't in the days of struggling to find scoring options off the bench. Waiters, Marrow, and Jackson all have shown they can get their own shot.
Lets call some coaches. I hear Tom Thibodeau isn't happy in Chicago. Maybe George Karl wants to get back into the game? Or maybe even bring the offensive genius of Mark Jackson who essentially made Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson who they are today.
The time for Brooks maybe now. Don't be surprised if we don't make the playoffs or have an early exit to the Golden State Warriors we have a new man managing the reigns.
